Set up your default craft and launch location first. These choices drive craft-specific checklists, Personal Limits, Home context, plans, Float Plans, and paddle logs.

1. Open Settings, add your kayak or SUP under Craft Profiles, and make it the default.
2. Set Personal Limits for that craft. Treat them as warnings, not proof that conditions are safe.
3. Open Plan, add or discover a launch location, then set your usual location as default.
4. Create a plan, select the craft, complete its checklist, and share the Float Plan with your shore contact.

Craft Profiles support kayaks and stand-up paddleboards only. Give each craft a recognisable name and description so a shore contact can identify it.

• The default craft appears on Home and is used for new unplanned paddles.
• Plans and tracked paddles keep a snapshot of the selected craft, so later profile edits do not rewrite old records.
• SUP profiles can record construction, inflation pressure, and leash setup. Choose a leash suitable for the water environment and local guidance.
• Personal Limits are stored per craft for wind, gusts, waves, route distance, daylight margin, and minimum air temperature.
• When current data exceeds a recorded limit, SKEG adds a readiness warning. Missing or modelled data still needs independent checking.

A Float Plan turns a saved Paddle Plan into shareable text for the person who should act if you are overdue.

• It includes the selected craft and description, launch coordinates, route, planned start, expected return, contact, conditions snapshot, and Personal Limits.
• Review the text before sharing and agree what “overdue” means and what your contact should do.
• Share again whenever the craft, route, launch, timing, or conditions change.
• SKEG does not automatically notify your shore contact or emergency services.

Incident Mode is available during an active paddle. It records a craft-relevant incident, time, and last live GPS point, then prepares a short message and opens SOS actions.

• Kayak options include capsize/re-entry and flooding; SUP options include board separation, leash problems, deflation/damage, and being blown away from shore.
• Use SOS actions immediately for danger. Recording an incident does not transmit it automatically.
• The recorded position is the last accepted GPS point and may be stale or unavailable—always read the GPS status.

Find launch points searches mapped OpenStreetMap access points, put-ins, egress points, and slipways around your position or the visible map.

• Results need an internet connection, but points you save remain in your local launch-location list.
• Map tags can be incomplete, wrong, private, seasonal, or unsuitable for a kayak or SUP.
• Before travelling or launching, verify legal access, parking, opening times, hazards, tide, flow, wind, weather, and physical suitability from current local sources.
• “Save & Plan” stores the point first, then opens a new plan using it.

Home shows the default launch location, forecast cards, cached condition status, and quick actions for planning or opening the launch point in your device maps app.

• Weather, rain, wind, waves, daylight, and modelled flow are planning aids only.
• SKEG shows a modelled 48-hour tide-height curve plus derived high/low times for today and tomorrow. Use a trusted authoritative source when exact tide-table or navigation information matters.
• Cached conditions remain visible offline and show when they were last updated.
• The map can be switched between Road and Satellite using the map control.

Open Settings and use Install App. When the browser can supply an automatic prompt, the button reads Install. Otherwise it opens instructions for the current device.

• On iPhone and iPad, open SKEG in Safari, tap Share, then choose Add to Home Screen.
• On Android, use Chrome’s menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
• On desktop Chrome or Edge, use the address-bar install icon or the browser’s Install app command.
• A grey Installed button means SKEG is already running in standalone app mode.
• Installation and offline use require HTTPS and a successfully loaded service worker.

Plans let you prepare a route, expected duration, emergency contact, notes, launch location, and pre-launch checklist before starting a paddle.

• Use a saved launch location when possible so plan data stays consistent with Home.
• Capture a fresh condition snapshot before saving if the forecast has changed.
• Checklist progress is saved locally and can be updated before launch.
• Starting from a plan links the completed paddle back to that plan in the Log.

CYBR SKEG records paddles using Live GPS only. Practice Mode records are treated as legacy data and new paddles must start from a reliable GPS fix.

• Move outside and keep the phone visible while the first GPS fix is requested.
• The launch marker is the first accepted GPS point, not the planned launch coordinate.
• Distance from GPS Start measures from that first accepted GPS point.
• Poor accuracy, stale fixes, and unrealistic jumps may be rejected to protect route quality.
• Keep Screen Awake requests a screen wake lock while tracking. A phone may still release it because of browser support, battery saving, or system settings.
• Paddling Lock keeps the display awake and blocks accidental touches inside SKEG. Press and hold its unlock control for two seconds to restore the controls.
• The physical power button and system gestures cannot be blocked by a PWA. Turning the screen off or moving SKEG into the background can interrupt GPS tracking.
• Use Pause when stopped, Resume to continue, and Finish only when the paddle is complete.

Take Photo and Record Video open SKEG's in-app rear-camera view so tracking can remain visible to the browser while you capture media.

• SKEG requests social-ready 1080p video from the rear camera and shows the actual resolution granted by the browser.
• Photo and video capture requests portrait or landscape dimensions based on the device orientation when the camera opens.
• Photos use the camera's highest-resolution still-image capture when supported, with a 98%-quality preview-frame fallback.
• Videos use the best supported MP4 or WebM format with an upload-friendly target bitrate around 8 Mbps.
• Import Original Photo and Import Original Video remain available for files already captured with the phone camera app.
• Camera and browser limits can still reduce the requested resolution. The capture screen reports the resolution actually in use.
• Media is downloaded separately and is not attached to the saved paddle or included in data backups.

Maps appear on Home, Track, Trip Detail, and the launch picker. Each map has the same Road/Satellite toggle.

• Road view is the default and uses the normal app map style.
• Satellite view helps inspect launch surroundings, slipways, beaches, and access points.
• Live maps need network access. Saved trip data remains local if map tiles are unavailable.
• The optional Marine control overlays community-mapped OpenSeaMap seamarks. It is planning context, may be incomplete or outdated, and cannot replace an official nautical chart.
• On Track, Fit Route frames the recorded route and Recenter follows the latest GPS point.

The Log stores completed paddles on this device. Open a paddle to review its summary, map, markers, notes, exports, and share card.

• GPX export can trim the start and finish of the route for privacy.
• JSON export saves the full trip record for personal archive or troubleshooting.
• Share cards are generated at 2160 x 2700 pixels and use the same summary values shown in Trip Detail.
• The complete recorded route is included by default and is fitted inside the card without centre-cropping.
• Enable Hide the start and finish for privacy only when you want the selected distance removed from both route ends.
• If map tiles are unavailable, SKEG still produces a route-only card containing the complete selected track.
• Copy Summary creates text suitable for messages when image sharing is not supported.

CYBR SKEG is local-first. Paddles, CKI learning records, plans, launch locations, checklist state, and selected preferences are stored on this device.

• Export a backup before clearing local data, changing device, or reinstalling the app.
• Import backup restores saved paddles, CKI learning records, plans, launch locations, and supported preferences.
• Backup JSON is not encrypted and can include precise locations and the saved shore-contact number.
• Refreshing conditions sends the selected launch coordinates to Open-Meteo.
• Photos and videos are separate device downloads and are not included in SKEG backups.
• Clear App Cache removes offline shell files only. It does not delete saved paddles.
• Clear All Local Data removes local records and should be used only after backing up.

The SOS button opens emergency actions for calling 999 or 112, calling the saved shore contact, and sharing or copying the last live GPS position where one is available. Calling depends on the device and network being able to place a call.

• Save and test the shore-contact number before relying on it.
• Use emergency services for immediate danger. SKEG is not a substitute for a marine radio, personal locator beacon, suitable safety equipment, or an agreed shore plan.
• Tell someone your plan, launch point, expected return time, and route before paddling.
• Carry appropriate safety kit and use trusted marine, weather, and tide sources.
• Before launching, confirm that Keep Screen Awake shows Active and test Paddling Lock on your phone.
• Regularly check GPS freshness because browser tracking cannot be guaranteed while the screen is off.
• CYBR SKEG is a planning and logging aid, not a navigation or rescue system.
